A short list of pregnancy avoidances has strong evidence: alcohol (no safe threshold established), high-mercury fish (specific species), unpasteurized dairy, raw or undercooked meat and eggs, and unwashed produce. Beyond that, most “avoid” lists are inheritance from older era or culture, not current evidence. This section separates the two.
